Star Wars Goes Haute Couture at New York Fashion Week

Rodarte - Runway - Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall 2014

We’re talking Star Wars fashion today, but forget the bargain bin T-shirts. This isn’t some common merchandise throwaway – this is high Star Wars fashion. These are definitely the dresses you’re looking for.

To start off with, everything from this collection of Star Wars-themed Rodarte dresses from designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy are from the original trilogy, so we’re already on the right track. Shots of Yoda, Luke, the twin suns of Tatooine, C-3PO, and the Episode VI Death Star have been elegantly printed onto the flowing dresses, which look elegant regardless of what’s on them. It’s worth noting that Disney, George Lucas, and his wife Mellody Hobson all approved of the new line of dresses, and after one look at them, why wouldn’t they?

Sadly, there are no plans to actually bring these dresses to market – for now, they’re just making the rounds at New York Fashion Week, but will be seen again in autumn for editorial shoots and exhibits, which should be just in time for (very) early promotions of Episode VII to get underway. In the meantime, we can all cross our fingers for Star Wars formal wear to become a thing.
