Do you work in a crowded office or another noisy environment? If so, you should seriously consider the Blackwire C725 from Plantronics. This is a very high quality headset that will help you focus on your work and not the distractions in the office.
Like a lot of Plantronics headsets and headphones, the Blackwire C725 has a smart sensor that automatically turns the headset on and routes audio from a connected device when you put the headset on. Unlike a lot of other Plantronics devices, these heavy-duty headphones feature Active Noise Cancelling, which uses microphones to pick up ambient sound, inducing the headphones to create opposing white noise to cancel out all the background stuff. Usually, that requires battery power, but these headphones are a little unique in that they connect to your computer using the USB port, not the 3.5 mm audio port. That supplies the power needed to run the ANC feature, but it also means you won’t be using these with any mobile devices. These are for office use only.
We have to admit that these headphones do have great sound quality. Whether it’s a conversation on Skype, listening to music or even playing a game, the sound was incredible. The ANC worked very well and really helps you to focus on what you are doing.
Using the USB port to connect the headset to a computer has other benefits. Using the Plantronics Hub program, you will have call control with several VoIP programs like Skype, as well as the Headset control panel for customization of settings, including call notification and other options.
The headset’s ear cushions fold flat, which helps it fit nicely in the included carrying case for easy portability and storage. The entire unit is solidly built and seems like it will hold up well under daily use. The ear cushions are soft and comfortable. The top of the headset has an adequate cushion, but some of us found it a bit uncomfortable, although it seems like a small annoyance that would likely pass after a few hours of use. There’s also an in-line microphone and remote.
The Good: Excellent sound and noise cancellation
The Bad: Slightly uncomfortable
