IKEA’s Wireless Charging Furniture is Finally Here

Remember all that great IKEA furniture with the built-in wireless charging pads from a few months ago? Well, grab a golf pencil and your appetite for Swedish meatballs, because they’re finally available.

IKEA has gone with the Qi standard for wireless charging, which is built into many flagship phones like the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. Today, four Qi-enabled pieces are listed as available — the Selje nightstand, the Riggad work lamp, and Varv table and floor lamps. Aside from the Qi wireless charging pad, each of the pieces has one USB port, so you can charge two devices or one if you don’t have any Qi-enabled device or accessories and just really like the lamps or the nightstand. It’s IKEA, it can happen.

You can also get two kinds of standalone wireless mat components if you want to go above and beyond the usual IKEA DIY labor. If you already have furniture you don’t want to get rid of, you can get the Morik or Jyssen and the right sized drill bit so you can make your own Qi furniture.

You can order the components online, but if you want some brand new furniture, you’re going to have to wander the labyrinthine halls of IKEA like everyone else. The components are $30 each, while the furniture ranges from $60 to $120.

IKEA isn’t done with your smartphone yet, though. They might take good care of it at nighttime when you and your devices need to recharge, but when it’s dinnertime, IKEA wants those screens tucked away. An upcoming dinner set called Sittning includes a placemat called ‘Logged out,’ which includes a little pocket for you to hide away your smartphone (via Mashable). First one to take their phone out of the pocket does dishes? Seems fair.
