Halloween inconveniently falls on a Monday this year, forcing the festivities back into this past weekend. Sounds like the best party was at the Waldorf Astoria in New York on Saturday, when Bette Midler brought back the party ’til you die spirit of Hocus Pocus. Midler dusted off her Winifred costume once again, but from the sounds of it, she doesn’t want this to be the last time.
What we imagine was a highfalutin banger of a Hulaween Party at the hotel was highlighted by Midler, who went all-out bringing Winifred back — the dress, the broomstick, the nails, and of course the orange do.
But, she didn’t do it just for the good times (OK, that was probably most of the reason) — Midler has been calling for a sequel at least since last year, when she donned the Winifred costume during her concert tour to perform “I Put a Spell on You.” In case there was any doubt about her wicked (in the best way) intentions, Midler was quoted as saying, “I’m ready for my sequel, Mr. Disney!” So, we think she wants to do a sequel, is what we’re saying.
Is it going down? At the very least, we know that Disney has absolutely no opposition to sequels and reboots of popular ’90s movies, so that hurdle shouldn’t be difficult to clear. It might all depend on whether or not Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy want to get back in on the sister act. But, Entertainment Online reports that both actresses, along with director Danny Ortega, have expressed support recently when asked, so at the risk of getting our hopes up prematurely, this sounds like a when thing more than an if thing. And no, when won’t mean in another 300 years.
