After introducing their wireless charging Juice Pack cases with the Samsung Galaxy S7 last year, Mophie is getting into a rhythm. This week, they released wireless charging Juice Pack cases for both the Galaxy S8 and S8+, both of which will work with their Charge Force charging pads and mounts.
Actually, it should work with just about any wireless charging surface. The wireless charging landscape is still annoyingly fragmented, with different standard like Qi and PMA competing and not always working together. The Juice Pack cases works with all of those standards, so the cases can be charged by the Qi-enabled Charge Force pads or the PMA-enabled charging pads you’ll find at Starbucks. The case also has magnets that will align it just right with those Charge Force docks and mounts.
Inside, the S8 case has a 2,950 mAh battery and the S8+ case has a 3,300 mAh battery, so while they won’t quite give either the S8 or the S8+ a full extra charge, they’ll get pretty close. And, if you do happen to throw the phone on a charging pad, the case will intelligently charge your phone’s battery before charging the case’s, making sure your phone’s adequately powered up.
The only real bummer here is that while Samsung has finally made their phones waterproof, the same can’t be said of the cases. Otherwise, these cases look like the same solid charging cases Mophie has always put out. They can be ordered directly from Mophie now for $100 each.
