The Xbox Team is Starting Up Their Own News Show

Everyone’s jonesing for that original content these days! It’s almost all Netflix does anymore, Amazon and Hulu are building up their libraries, and even Facebook is — well, they’re trying, anyway. So, maybe we shouldn’t be surprised that the next quasi-player is the Xbox team. This week, Microsoft announced Inside Xbox, a streaming show about upcoming games, gaming culture, and all things Xbox.

At least at the outset, Inside Xbox sounds like a news-ish show, with the format nailed down on the fly. It’ll be hosted by Larry Hryb, Graeme Boyd, Jeff Rubenstein, Alex Hebert, Lydia Ellery, and others, so it sounds like we could see a rotating cast or a lot of jumping around to different segments. They’ll be covering upcoming Xbox games, so expect a lot of behind-the-scenes features and interviews — unsurprisingly, the first episode will feature Microsoft-owned development house Rare and their work on Sea of Thieves, the online multiplayer pirate adventure coming out later this month. Sounds like they’ll also be making announcements about new old games coming to their Game Pass subscription streaming service, too, so the show could be the place to look for a lot of breaking Xbox news.

You can bet Twitter will be a big part of the show, too. Inside Xbox will encourage audience participation, answering (doubtlessly carefully curated) questions from viewers and featuring impressive and funny game highlights that viewers send in. Of course, they’ll also partake in the most surefire way to ensure engagement — giving away a bunch of free stuff!

Feels like the Xbox team isn’t quite 100 percent committed to the concept just yet, though. For now, they only plan to do one episode per month, starting with an episode on March 10 at 12:00 PM PT (as pointed out by many others already, Saturday afternoon might be a tough sell). They won’t make it tough to watch, at least — it’ll be streaming on Xbox’s channels on YouTube, Facebook, Twitch, and Xbox’s own streaming video service, Mixer.
