My mom (we all affectionately call her Chickie) is one amazing woman. She raised me and my two younger sisters all on her own, taught honors child psychology college courses, counseled countless young adults on how to get their lives back on track, and was an entrepreneur on top of all of this!
So, she knows a thing or two about how to be successful, and she’s definitely the reason I have been able to accomplish everything I have in my life. I’m sharing the pearls of wisdom from my mom that will serve you best in business.
If You Don’t Ask, The Answer Will Always Be No
My mom always said to us growing up, “If you don’t ask, the answer will always be no.” It might seem kind of a basic thing to say, but boy, does this sentence have a lot of depth. What my mom really meant by this was if you aren’t going after what you want, you will never get to have it.
If you don’t put yourself out there, things won’t ever move in a positive direction or actually happen for you. If you aren’t making steps forward, you might as well be taking steps back because how can you get ahead?
Being an entrepreneur, having your own business, this all embodies having to take risks and having to put yourself out there on a daily basis. This can be a scary thing, but you have to keep trying, so you can really attain what it is you really want.
Do What You Love & The Money Will Come
This was my mom’s second favorite thin g to say to my sisters and me. You need to be really passionate about what you choose to build your business around, because being an entrepreneur is a heck of a grind.
If you don’t love what you do, you’re setting yourself up for burnout, and you’re setting yourself up to not be happy. If you love what you do, it’s much easier to keep pushing when things get tough. So, do what you love and the money will come.

There Is No One Way To Do Things Successfully
Mom always believed in there not being just one way to do things successfully. She’s right; there isn’t. Another thing that comes along with this is don’t listen to people who insist there is one path.
There truly never is and things have a tendency to end up working out in ways you least expected.
Be Flexible & Adaptable
It’s important to be flexible and adaptable because things in life and business have a lot of unexpected twists and turns. My mom always took things in stride and it’s something I’ve tried very hard to emulate as an adult (it takes a few trial runs).
You have to be ready for the unexpected, for mistakes, and you can’t do that unless you can roll with the punches and adapt to situations.
Not Everyone Is Going To Like You & That’s More Than Ok
I remember my mom explaining from a very young age that not everyone is going to like you and that’s more than ok. Be yourself anyway.
People will criticize you, put you down, tell you that you can’t do what you aspire to: don’t let the insecurities of people change who you are and what you want. That only trips you up on your road to success.
You Really Can Do Anything You Want
Mom so fully supported us in our endeavors and said that we can do anything we want so much, I really assumed everyone had a parent telling them this. It took me until my mid-twenties to fully appreciate her impact.
In case anyone hasn’t told you this lately, you really can do anything you want. The only thing standing in your way is yourself. Get out there and get going!
