Take A Look At The Scandalous Affairs These Female Teachers Started With Students

When you become a teacher, you are supposed to play a big role in helping a child grow while keeping them safe.

Not every teacher, however, honors those unwritten rules.

As parents, you trust the teachers of your children to educate them, but not take advantage of them.

Schools are supposed to be safe places for children to learn and grow.

Some teachers go on to abuse their position and the very children in their care by taking advantage of them.

We’re going to take a look at some of the most shocking and upsetting affairs female teachers had with their students.

Some lost their friends, some lost their husbands, and all of them lost their freedom for what they did.

Debra Lafave

Debra Lafave was a Tampa, Florida teacher who preyed upon one of her 14-year-old students.

She used to teach at Angelo L. Greco Middle School.

She had a brand-new husband when she decided to start the affair with her middle schooler, but that didn’t matter to Debra.

She was 24 years old and recently married when she took advantage of one of her middle school students, aged 14.

She pled guilty to lewd or lascivious battery in 2005, but she entered a plea deal and didn’t serve any jail time.

Instead, she did 3 years of house arrest and 7 years of probation. She also had to register as a sex offender.

She claimed her bipolar disorder let to her criminal behavior.

“My greatest regret would probably be the fact that I put this young man through this,” Debra told the court at her trial.

Not only was her career ruined, but her marriage was as well…

…And her husband filed for divorce.

Where is Debra now?

Debra is now in her 40s and living in Tampa, Florida.

She changed her name back to her maiden name after her husband divorced her: Debra Beasley.

Owen Lafave, Debra’s ex-husband, said to Ocala that he felt like he was wearing a sign that proclaimed:

“I’m Owen Lafave, my wife slept with a child.”

“I heard all the jokes on the cable talk shows and how guys say they wish they had a teacher like her.”

“Some people thought she did this because of me; they thought I was gay or we didn’t have an intimate…relationship,” he went on to say.

Debra has since been able to hold down several jobs that don’t have her coming into contact with children at all.

She most recently worked in the restaurant industry.

She also gave birth to twin boys.

Since giving birth, the relationship she had with the father of her sons has ended and there is no word on if she has a new love in her life.

“She is very good-hearted, and she does a lot for other people,” her friend Joe Zuniga said to TampaBay.com.

She also looks the same as she did in all her previous mugshots, so she gets recognized a lot in public to this day.

“A lot of people think that they are already free of everything, but to her everything that happened still affects her,” Joe went on to say about her.

“There are always people who make ugly faces.”

Apparently, Debra still gets hate mail from people over what she did.

She also reportedly gets upset every time she sees teachers abusing students in current headlines.

She also completely stays out of the media herself, doesn’t give any interviews, and wants to keep her current life very private.

Although, Joe did write a biography of her and her life, that she helped him write.

Debra never read the book he wrote, however.

Brianne Altice

Brianne Altice was a married mom of two and an English teacher in Utah who took advantage of three different 16 and 17-year-old students at her school.

She blames her poor self-esteem for her choices.

She told People, “This was no one else’s fault but my own.”

She went on to say, “This was not my ex-husband’s fault, or the school’s fault, or my students’ fault.”

“These were my poor, poor decisions. I’m very aware of it and I am very remorseful.”

“I regret the decisions I made that brought us here.”

Where is Brianne now?

Brianne is in jail and will be released in 2045.

“I had extreme self-esteem issues, and they (the victims) said things that made me feel good about myself,” Brianne explained to People about what she did.

“I just started to justify everything. I wasn’t functioning in a healthy adult manner at all.”

District Attorney Cristina Ortega also spoke to People, “I think she took advantage of each of the boys and what issues they may have had, whether it was their family or drugs or that sort of thing.”

“…. I think she took advantage of that and she made their problems even worse.”

“And on top of that, they had to deal with the public scrutiny of a lot of people saying, You are not a victim because you are a boy.”

“I think she layered on the impact with these boys.”

Pamela Smart

Although Pamela Smart wasn’t a teacher, she worked as a media coordinator for a school in Hampton, New Hampshire.

Given her job, she had access to children, and that’s how she met her 15-year-old victim, whom she allegedly convinced to help murder her husband.

She met Billy Flynn, just 15-years-old while working at the high school.

She was married and her husband’s name was Gregg Smart.

Pamela somehow allegedly convinced Billy to murder her husband Gregg in 1990.

He was just 24-years-old when he was murdered.

Billy’s friend Patrick Randall helped him commit Gregg’s murder.

Where is Pamela now?

Pamela is currently serving her life sentence in prison, even though she claimed (and still claims) she was innocent regarding Gregg’s murder.

She has admitted that Gregg would be alive to this day if she never decided to have an affair with Billy though.

Billy entered a deal to testify against Pamela, and he has since been let out of prison.

Pamela completed a master’s degree while in prison and she tutors fellow inmates.

When Mary Kay Letourneau started her relationship with a 12-year-old student, she was a married 6th-grade teacher.

She ended up getting pregnant by her student and continuing the relationship.

Aside from being married at the time, Mary Kay Letourneau had four children and was 34-years-old when she decided to have a relationship with Vili Fualaau.

Vili was a student of hers, and he was just in 6th grade and 12-years-old at the time.

Mary Kay said in her interview with Barbara Walters, “The incident was a late night that didn’t stop with a kiss. I thought that it would and it didn’t.”

After she was arrested for what she did, it was discovered that she was actually pregnant.

With Vili’s child.

She gave birth to a baby girl and shortly afterward pled guilty to her crime.

She served 3 months in jail and then was on probation, and ordered to have no contact with Vili.

Where is Mary Kay now?

Well, Mary Kay violated her parole because she continued to have contact with Vili.

She then became pregnant again from him and gave birth to another baby girl, while in prison.

She served 6 years in jail and her two daughters were cared for by Vili’s mother while she served her second sentence.

Vili and Mary Kay married in 2005 when she got out of jail.

In 2017, Vili filed for legal separation from her.

Despite that, they continued to live under the same roof with their children, in Seattle.

Although Mary Kay and Vili tried to save their marriage and relationship, ultimately that didn’t happen.

In 2019, their separation was finalized and now the two lead separate lives.

They haven’t been much in the media since then.

They reportedly are still friendly towards one another though.

Mary Kay now works as a paralegal.
