6-Year-Old Boy Weighed Just 18 Pounds After He Was Intentionally Starved To Death And Forced To Live In A Closet For 16 Hours Each Day

“The physical appearance of the six-year-old child did not compliment his age, appearing malnourished,” a report states about the condition Deshaun was in that day.

Deshaun’s older brother was also still locked inside of a closet when authorities got there. It turns out, Deshaun and his brother were forced to stay in the dark closet for up to 16 hours every single day.

At 8 pm every night, the two brothers were put in the closet. At midnight the next day, they would be let out and fed only a bowl of oatmeal. 4 hours after that they were allowed to have 1 cheese sandwich.

None of Deshaun’s younger sisters were malnourished, but he weighed in at just 18 pounds when he passed away. He weighed what a 1-year-old should.

Deshaun’s parents, 26-year-old Elizabeth Archibeque, and 23-year-old Anthony Martinez tried to tell the police that he was the weight he was because of some kind of medical condition.

They said that he was somehow getting his hands on diet pills and ingesting them.

They also tried to say Deshaun and his brother would sneak into the kitchen and steal food to eat in the middle of the night, so that’s why they were locked in the closet but the other children were not.

An autopsy report confirmed that Deshaun’s cause of death was due to a “non-life-sustaining state of starvation.”

His manner of death was declared a homicide.

Deshaun’s hair was frail. His eyes were sunken into his head. Dark circles ringed around his eyes. He basically resembled a skeleton in life.

His autopsy report also explained he had a tough time keeping weight on as an infant. At 2 weeks old, he ended up in the hospital for a urinary tract infection and sepsis.

He stayed in the hospital for 10 days, and before he went home with his parents, hospital staff discussed with them how to properly feed Deshaun.

When he was 4-years-old, he did weigh 34 pounds. At 5, he was only 27 pounds. At 6, 18 pounds.

Deshaun’s parents, along with his 50-year-old grandmother Ann Martinez, have all been charged child abuse, kidnapping, and first-degree murder.

His grandmother knew what his parents did to him and did nothing to stop it, authorities say.
