As his cancer progressed, he had no choice but to stop performing and cancel the tour he had planned.
Towards the end of his life, he was trying to fly home to Jamaica, where he was born, but he had to stop in Miami to go to the hospital.
He sadly passed away at the University of Miami Hospital on May 11th, 1981, and was later buried in Jamaica alongside his beloved guitar.

Although everyone knows Bob Marley by that name, the real name that he was born with was actually Nesta Robert Marley.
Feeling that Nesta just felt too feminine, he decided to go by his middle name of Robert, which he then shortened to Bob.
Bob Marley’s Family
Bob Marley got married to Rita Anderson when he was 21-years-old, and they were together up until his death.
Rita had one daughter when she got married to him (who he ended up adopting), and they had four children during their marriage.
