Recently, he ended up moving to a new place and started the school year with a new class of children.
As he was greeting his new students, he notices a boy named Max who he thought looked shockingly like him.
“…It was like looking at a photo of myself as a child,” he continued. “I have a genetic ear disfigurement and so does he, he looks identical to how I did at his age.”
“I check the register and his surname is the same as Amy’s but it’s a common surname.”
He couldn’t believe it, and he tried his best to hide his feelings. Towards the end of that day, he was marking down every child’s birthday because he likes to get them a cupcake and card to celebrate, and he noticed that Max’s birthday aligns with when he was with Amy.
He tried to rationalize everything and tried to forget about it. Then, he ended up being out on the playground one day watching the kids playing, and he saw Amy come to pick up Max.
It was unmistakably her, and from where he was on the playground, he could see her but she could not see him.
He’s convinced that he is Max’s dad, but he has no clue how to approach Amy or this situation.
“I’m so conflicted because part of me understands why she didn’t tell me but at the same time I can’t believe I’ve potentially missed out on his life, I’ve always wanted children and I am at a complete loss,” he concluded.
