A Scooter Accident In Bali Left Her In A Coma And Her Family Needed To Raise Over $250,000 To Get Her Home To California

Kaitlyn was rushed to a nearby hospital in Denpasar, Bali, where she was diagnosed with several terrible injuries, including a traumatic brain injury.

Her family wasn’t able to fly to Bali to be with her, as the government wouldn’t allow it, and they struggled to communicate with the hospital employees who were taking care of Kaitlyn, which left them unsure of the condition that Kaitlyn truly was in.

Kaitlyn’s family members were able to find a hospital in California that was willing to accept Kaitlyn, and so they were left with the daunting task of coming up with the money to pay for the international medevac to airlift her home.

The distance from California to Bali, coupled with multiple closures of different borders, meant that if Kaitlyn was going to be airlifted home, it would cost her family at least $250,000.

Dena put together a GoFundMe page to help get Kaitlyn home, which was able to raise the money needed; $262,904.00.

On August 22nd, close to a month after Kaitlyn’s terrible accident, she was safely flown from Bali to Stanford Hospital Neurocritical Care Unit in California.

“The doctors at Stanford have already uncovered much more detail as it relates to Kaitlyn’s injuries,” Kaitlyn’s family members Janine and Jennifer McCaffery wrote in an update.

“My good friend Dena started this GoFundMe and we never expected to garner such an incredible response. We are so grateful for everyone’s prayers and donations that made this possible. We are able to be by Kaitlyn’s side, discuss medical developments with the doctors in real time, and have a great deal of confidence in the care she is receiving.”

Kaitlyn still faces a very long road on her recovery, and the additional money raised through the GoFundMe page will go towards Kailtyn’s medical care and rehab.
