After dating for only a short amount of time, though, the woman found out she was pregnant with twins just a few weeks ago.
“We decided now was as good a time as any to blend our families. His kids have started calling me mom, and my kids call him dad,” she said.
“And even though it’s moving really fast, we wanted to go ahead and get married. So he bought a ring, asked my father for his blessing, and coordinated a plan to propose.”
This couple hoped to create a loving and modern blended family together until the boyfriend tragically passed away in his sleep.
It was completely unexpected. The woman, along with her boyfriend’s family, have all been mourning their loss.
The boyfriend’s mother immediately came to town to begin sorting through her son’s belongings. As her boyfriend’s future fiancé, the woman had just one request.
“We hadn’t been together long, so I didn’t feel like I had a claim to any of his stuff. But, I told his family that if anyone came across the ring, it would mean a lot to me if it found its way to me,” she said.
Instead, his family said the woman would be stealing from the boys since the assets were supposed to be divided among the children.
“Since he hadn’t proposed yet, it wasn’t mine to keep,” the family told the woman.
Is the woman in the wrong for wanting to keep the wedding ring?
