He Was Arrested For Drunk Driving, But Now He Credits His Arresting Officer With Saving His Life

We would never know when or under what occasion the turning point of our lives might occur. Yet, sometimes, what might seem to be the worse circumstance could have the best outcome.
To Jake Bosacker, it was what happened to him. The best help that he was given came from the police officer who arrested him for drunk driving in 2017.
You see, Jake has a dream. He wants to bring the best out of himself from any perspective, and he has a dream career in law enforcement.
So in 2017, 21-year-old Jake had a plan for himself: Quit drinking, move back home to Minnesota with his parents from his college in Texas, take a semester off, and get a job. He had it all planned out to give himself enough time to pursue his dream job.
However, the reality doesn’t always go as planned. During Jake’s first night back in Minnesota, Jake had already gone out with a few of his buddies to a local bar. And the story just kept going down south from there.
Then, on September 9, 2017, Jake was pulled over by State Trooper Keenan Jones for a DWI (Drive While Intoxicated).
“I think I was trying to get home, but I was going the opposite direction,” Jake later recalled.
Jake also recalled a nosebleed when he rolled down the window after being pulled over. Trooper Jones had found some Fireball Cinnamon Whisky in the back seat of his car as well.
While sitting in Trooper Jones’ squad car, Jake had a mental breakdown as he thought he had lost all hopes to enter the law enforcement field since Jake had broken the law for drunk driving, and this record will follow him wherever he goes.

“I remember feeling like I had lost all hope,” Jake said. “What is the point of living if I can’t do what I feel I was called to do?”
But Trooper Jones begged to differ. After seeing Jake, Jones realized there was “something different” about this young man. Jones could feel that Jake was nothing like the others he had arrested on the road, the people who don’t learn their lesson. Instead, Jones had described Jake as “a breath of fresh of fresh air.”
He said Jake had acknowledged that something needed to change and did not blame Jones for his situation.

Jake was also greatly appreciative for what Jones did next—instead of ignoring Jake’s breakdown or lecturing him, Jones listened to his story.
“You (Jones) comforted me, telling me my life was not over, my career was not over,” Jake recalled.
And four years later, Trooper Jones still stood by his words. He admitted that it was an emotional time while talking to Jake in his squad car. But Jones also reassured Jake that there is never an end to a dream that one has.
“I could feel that you were a good person with a good heart,” Jones later emphasized.

Jones then brought up a whole different perspective of Jake’s arrest. He believes if Jake still chooses a career in law enforcement, this experience will be an asset.
“You’ve been on the other side. You just gotta work and fight hard to get back in there,” Jones told Jake. “You have the experience way beyond me who’s arrested hundreds of drunks—you’ve been through that entire process.”
At that moment, Jones still had no clue how much his words had impacted Jake’s life. Until four years later, Jake reached out to him to express his gratitude and the wish to keep in touch.
“This has never happened to me in my career,” Jones said. “I really don’t think you understand how much I appreciate it.”
The four years had also been eventful for Jake. He finished his college degree, married the woman he loves, and regained sobriety. “With help from God,” he added.
For reaching his best outcome, Jake gave all the credits to Keenan Jones, the Minnesota State Trooper who gave him the encouragement he needed to turn his life around.
And now, Jake wanted to work with Jones in the Minnesota State Patrol.
“You saved my life that night, and you had probably saved somebody else’s,” Jake said. “If anything can come from our story together, maybe someone’s life can be saved, too.”
