This Couple Shared Their Controversial List Of Wedding Guest Expectations On TikTok

“The favor is the one hundred dollar dinner,” joked a third commenter.

Nonetheless, Kaytlyn’s rather extensive list also sparked some intense disagreements.

“People really think their weddings are as special for everyone else. Guests come as a courtesy to you. It is not an event they are willing to be inconvenienced for,” wrote one disheartened user.

“People take weddings way too seriously nowadays,” commented a second user.

Many TikTokers also inquired about the “no plus-one” rule. This rule in and of itself can be a slippery slope to navigate depending on the relationship. So, Kaytlyn made a follow-up video to address her plus-one decision process.

“We kind of came up with our own rules,” she said before sharing a list of questions. Kaytlyn and her fiancé Tyler asked themselves these questions before allowing a guest to have a plus-one.

The first was, “Have both you and your fiancé met them?”

“This sounds crazy to some people, but if you are dating long-distance or live long-distance from your family, this is so not outside of the realm of possibility. Or, is this the moment you want your fiancé to meet them?” Kaytlyn explained.

The following plus-one questions pertained to guests outside of the family.

“Do you or would you spend time with that person outside of work? Along with that, would you buy them dinner? That can kind of go across the board for school friends, coworkers, more casual friends,” Kaytlyn said.

Additionally, she and her fiancé used more general questions such as “can you imagine your wedding day without them?” and “are they supportive of you as a couple?”
