They informed her that they just did not want to spend money on her dress, and it really made her feel terrible.
“I always regretted not being able to feel pretty that day – it’s stupid but my dress fell apart halfway through the night and I just went home early,” she said.
“My high school just posted on their Facebook about how my parents had donated around $20,000 worth of prom dresses to the school and thanked them.”
“I was extremely hurt – it felt like they cared more about their image than me.”
Yeah, her parents forced her to go to prom in a dress that cost $8, yet they have donated more than $20,000 of prom dresses to her high school pretty recently.
After she found out, she freaked out on her mom over the phone. She reprimanded her mom for never making her a “priority” and she also said that it wasn’t fair for her to be throwing money at everyone else while making them live like they were poor growing up.
Her mom did start crying as she spoke to her on the phone, though she didn’t get an apology out of her or anything like that.
The rest of her family has since found out about her freak out, and they have been calling her nonstop while accusing her of being an awful, entitled person.
Another thing that adds to her family thinking that she’s entitled is that she did marry a man who has a lot of money and treats her wonderfully.
She’s planning on no longer speaking to her parents in another two months, and she’s working with her therapist on how to cut them off forever.
“I got married young, I know,” she added. “I get a lot of flack for it. But he pays for my college and treats me well and always reminds me to flush, it’s ok to do that.”
