She Offered To Do Her Niece’s Makeup For Prom But Now Expects Her Sister To Pay Her For It

Also, her niece isn’t great with makeup and if she had to be left to her own devices, it wouldn’t be so great of a result.

Since she has been spending a lot of her own time getting better at makeup and improving upon her skills, she was confident that she would knock it out of the park.

She went out and dropped $87 on makeup and other things in order to do her niece’s makeup for prom, and a lot of those products that she purchased specifically for her niece are things she wouldn’t ever personally want.

“While that $87 was spent on more than just stuff for her, I feel I should be repaid for the things that I can’t/won’t have use for,” she explained.

“Makeup artists in my area can easily go for a minimum of $75 before tip, and she cannot afford anything that pricey.”

“My thought was to send her a Venmo request for half the amount I spent.”

She added that she has a bizarre relationship with her sister, and her sister spent years walking all over her or taking advantage of her, so that’s why she’s thinking she should ask her sister to cover the costs of her niece’s makeup, even though it wasn’t something they previously discussed.

She has been able to learn how to create boundaries with her sister lately, who still largely ignores them, and asking for repayment for her niece’s makeup she believes is part of sticking to a healthy boundary with her sister.

She’s wondering if it is permissible to ask her sister for payment although she did sign up to do her niece’s makeup for prom.

Do you think she should ask her sister to cover the expenses, or do you think she shouldn’t since it wasn’t a detail they really ironed out beforehand?
