News of the disaster has shaken communities across the globe as people grieve the young lives lost and express anger and confusion toward officials.
“We are in trouble in this country because businesses are not properly registered and monitored by authorities– especially taverns and spaza shops. Yes, national [authorities] must be there, but local authorities are failing the people of this country,” commented one Facebook user on the SAPS press release shared on the platform.
“My condolences to the families who lost loved ones. I cannot imagine the pain they must be in,” wrote another user.
