“Today, I am just grateful. I graduated high school LAST YEAR at twelve years old, and here I am– one year later– being accepted into medical school at thirteen,” Alena began.
“I am a junior in college. Statistics would have said I never would have made it. [I am] a little Black girl adopted from Fontana, California. I have worked so hard to reach my goals and live my dreams,” she continued.
Alena went on to repeatedly thank her mother, who she claims is the reason for her success.
“I could not have done it with you.,” she wrote. “You gave me every opportunity possible to be successful– you cheered me on, wiped my tears, gave me Oreos when I needed comfort, and you never allowed me to settle.”
“You are the best mother a kid could ever ask for.”
Alena’s Instagram post has since earned over one thousand and three hundred likes, as well as tons of congratulatory comments.
“Wow. Now, this is what makes my heart smile. Congratulations to you and thank you, mommy,” commented one user.
“My ten-year-old just introduced me to you. Thank you so very much for being you. You are the motivation for all #BrownSkinSTEMGirls, including mine,” wrote another user.
And on top of Alena’s academic achievements, the child prodigy has also made her dreams of entrepreneurship and philanthropy come true.
In 2020, she launched Brown STEM Girl– an organization dedicated to providing girls of color who are interested in STEM careers with priceless opportunities.
