The boyfriend was taken into custody, questioned, but released the same day. Nicole was found dead less than twenty-four hours later.
Nonetheless, Major Laptin has not confirmed nor denied that the boyfriend was ruled out as a suspect. Still, he revealed that the case likely would not progress due to investigators losing evidence.
“Even though we have our thoughts and our ideas, we have to have proof. Whether or not that evidence would have given us proof, we don’t know. It did not at the time because he [the boyfriend] was not charged,” Major Laptin said.
Still, even since Nicole’s death occurred over twenty years ago, her mother, Robyn, has not stopped searching for justice.
Most recently, Robyn joined forces with Unsolved RI and is offering a reward of one thousand dollars for any information that leads to an arrest.
“After twenty years, her story deserves to be told,” Robyn said.
In the meantime, anyone with information regarding Nicole’s case is encouraged to contact the Providence Police Department at (401) 272-3121.
