She Started Her First Business At Just 9-Years-Old, And Now She’s Helping Women Worldwide Take Control Of Their Finances

Have you ever felt like finances are a “boys club?” Tori Dunlap did, too. Well, sort of.
Tori grew up the daughter of two parents who made financial literacy a necessity. They taught her to save, negotiate, and not feel guilty if she did not know what to do while in a financial bind.
Instead, the Dunlaps encouraged Tori to ask questions and further her knowledge.
Then, at the ripe age of nine, she began her first business.
“I owned the sort of vending machines where you put in a quarter and get a handful of candy out. I had fifteen of these machines by the time I was in high school, with all the proceeds going to my college fund,” Tori said.
Once Tori reached her early twenties, though, she recalled how her friends worshipped her financial knowledge and side hustle.
Not because Tori viewed herself as any smarter or better at managing money, though.
Instead, Tori realized that not all women are taught the same financial skills she was. Moreover, most women are excluded from the conversation altogether.

“I watched female friends get paid less than they were worth. I read stories about women being denied career opportunities because they were seen as ‘less,'” Tori began.
“I learned that women hold the majority of debt in America and that they invest less of their money than men yet live for seven years longer. So, I knew that I had to fight back,” she continued.
That was when the idea of “financial feminism” was born. Tori believes that in order to have complete autonomy over your life, you have to be financially educated.
She also hopes to dispel the myth that women are not rich because they “buy too many lattes” or blow their paycheck on shopping sprees.
Plus, once more women hold financial power, they can make real change in the world.
So, Tori launched the brand “Her First 100K.” At the age of twenty-five, she was able to save over one hundred thousand dollars, quit her corporate nine-to-five, and become a full-time entrepreneur.
And after putting her financial knowledge to the true test and succeeding, she decided to share her wealth of knowledge with women around the globe.
Tori first launched the brand across all social media channels, where she provided money-saving tips, budgeting guides, investment resources, and engaged in open, judgment-free conversations with followers.
Although, her most successful platform has by far been TikTok– where Tori now has 2.2 million followers.
And shortly after the online community widely embraced Tori’s brand and message, she created the Her First 100K podcast, available on Apple and Spotify.
There, the entrepreneur shares personal financial tales, sits down with influential women in the industry, and accepts questions from listeners worldwide.
Tori has now grown her first one hundred thousand dollars into millions. And she is hoping that her “financial feminist movement” will help other women do the same.
“I do not like the phrase ’empowering women.’ The definition of ’empower’ is to be given power. You don’t need to be given power; you already have it. You just need to learn how to use it,” Tori said of her mission.
