The group was not satisfied with that compromise, though. Instead, they began calling her selfish and saying it would be rude to the other guests to eat a different cake. She refused to back down, though, being that it was her birthday, and she believed that since they asked, she should be able to pick the flavor of the cake.
So afterward, she was left wondering if declining to change her cake flavor preference was a jerky thing to do– especially after the group was trying to throw her first real birthday party ever.
“I did not want to be rude to the people who were ‘nice’ enough to throw me a party,” she explained.
But, thankfully, the feeling quickly dissipated after her boyfriend arrived at home a few hours later– because he went on to tell his family off.
And afterward, she decided to cancel the party planned by her in-laws altogether. Instead, she, her boyfriend, and a few of their friends just went out to dinner together. Then, the friends went back to her apartment afterward to hang out.
“Then, just as I was about to go to bed, everyone began to sing, and a red velvet cake with my name on it came dancing out,” she recalled.
