So, she ended up asking her sister how much she was gifted for her marriage and learned that her parents gave her sister twice as much money.
This really rubbed her the wrong way– not even because of the money, but just because she did not understand why her parents would do that. And after sharing her feelings with her sister, she was encouraged to ask her parents.
So, she eventually did while speaking to her mom on the phone. And her mother’s response was shocking.
Apparently, the mom said her sister chose a partner who could accommodate a more luxurious lifestyle and gifted her a proportionate amount of money.
However, since she chose a husband who could provide a less expensive lifestyle, they opted to gift her “according to that lifestyle.”
And while she recognizes that no one is entitled to a gift of any kind, the fact that her parents valued their relationships so differently is still extremely upsetting.
“I can’t help but feel hurt that my parents feel my husband and I are less deserving than my sister and her husband based on income,” she said.
Nonetheless, now her parents are angry at both her and her sister for even disclosing their wedding gift sums, and she has been left wondering if bringing it up to her parents was the wrong thing to do.
If you learned your parents gifted your sibling twice as much money for their wedding, would you confront them too? Even if the parents’ reasoning is their own business, is it still flawed?
