So, on the day of the party, all of the kids got to make their own homemade pizzas. Then, they played with water guns outside for hours before decorating their own cake and cookie to take home with them.
She thought the party was a huge success and, apparently, the other kids did, too– because, on Monday, the five guests could not stop raving about how fun the party was. They even called it “the best party ever.”
Unfortunately, though, the other kids heard about it, felt left out, and were upset they weren’t invited. And at after-school pick-up, she was even approached by some unhappy moms.
“They confronted me about not inviting their kids, and I said I was sorry but that it was a small party for his close friends only,” she said.
Nonetheless, they would not stop complaining about her excluding their children. And even now, over six months later, she is still getting passive-aggressive comments thrown at her from the same mothers. So, she has been left wondering if choosing to only invite a few of her son’s close friends to the birthday party was a fine decision or if she should not have “left the other kids out.”
Do you think the other moms should be making her feel guilty? Are parents required to invite the entire class to birthday parties?
