His friend was obviously not looking to be torn down anymore after the fight with their wife, though, and just stayed quiet on the other end of the phone. Then, once he was finished berating the prank, his friend just hung up the phone.
He did not want to piss off his friend and make them any more upset, but he felt that he was honest about his opinion and that his friend needed to hear it.
However, the next day when he tried to call his friend back, they did not answer the phone. Moreover, his friend will not respond to any of his texts.
And honestly, he is pretty confused. Growing up, they were always really candid about their opinions in situations and called each other out when they made mistakes.
“Me calling him a freaking idiot may be jarring, but that phrase has been amicably passed back and forth many times over the years. It was harsh, but not out of character for our relationship,” he said.
So now, he is super shocked that his friend took such offense to him being honest. Moreover, he is not sure if giving his friend hell in an already tough situation was the wrong way to respond.
Do you think he responded fairly to the situation? Is it better to tell the truth and hurt a friend or lie and enable stupid decisions? What would you have done in this situation?
