After telling her brother about the new house at her mother’s request, though, he did not understand the new living arrangement. At first, her brother said it would be difficult for everyone to move into that small of a house. And then, he said he would eventually expand the home to fit their mother and his entire family in it all together.
But, she saw the despair flash across her mother’s face and quickly jumped in to make it clear that the house was for her mother alone– no one else. Still, though, her brother tried to suggest that he would help pay for their mother’s bills and food if he could move in.
So, she had to double down and tell her brother that their mother had accepted the gift under the condition that her brother would not live there. And how due to his history, she does not trust him to pay any bills at all.
This seriously pissed him off, though, and he began calling her selfish and a total jerk for giving a gift with that condition. He also claimed that she was trying to harm him purposefully and portray him as some monster.
So now, she is not sure what to do. She does not think giving her mother a peaceful place to spend her golden years is the wrong thing to do at all. But, her brother’s comments have made her wonder if she acted like a jerk.
Do you think she had a right to give her mom the home with a stipulation? If you were in her shoes, would you let the brother move in or not?
