“I laughed and said how small the world was because two small-town southern boys ended up in the same city and that Jack So-and-So is my boyfriend and will be meeting up with us later that evening.”

Dean awkwardly laughed and then excused himself from the conversation. Being about 6 tequila shots deep, I started to press him on what was up.”
She really had to drag the words out of Dean, but eventually, he did fill her in on the truth of what happened between him and Jack.
When Dean was in high school, Jack and some of his friends that he is still close to tormented Dean to no end.
As Dean sat there and described what Jack and his friends did to him, it made her sick to her stomach.
Dean mentioned that Jack almost made him end his own life, and the reason why Jack bullied him so relentlessly is that Dean is gay.
After Dean told her everything, he wanted to just go home, and she later apologized to Dean for pushing him so hard to tell her why he didn’t like Jack.
But that night, she and her friends stuck to their plans of going out for the night, and then they all met up with Jack and his friends.
“This first time I had ever seen Jack in that bar, I felt like I had seen an angel,” she said. “This time, it felt like looking in the face of malice.”
“All night, I could only think about the horrible things he has done. Even now, whenever I try to remember the amazing times we’ve had together, my thoughts always go back to his high school actions.”
“I broke up with Jack and told him I knew about who he was in high school. He started crying and said he hates himself for the way he was and that he’s actively trying to make up for his wrongs by living a good, kind life now.”
