Well, at that point, she was forced to be the bearer of bad news and inform her mother-in-law that she and her husband were actually taking the suite. She also took that opportunity to remind her mother-in-law and father-in-law of how everyone loves to visit and play with the baby in her room. So, she explained how she is just not comfortable having a room without enough space that is also not private.
Finally, she kind of delivered one last final blow by reiterating that her husband had graciously used all of his travel points to get them the accommodations in the first place. So, she told her mother-in-law that she could pay for an upgrade if she really wanted a suite.
Unsurprisingly, though, her short rant did not go over well with her mother-in-law. Instead, she actually got told off and accused of being totally selfish right afterward.
But, in the middle of her mother-in-law’s comments, her husband did thankfully step in and cut his mother off. Then, he just backed her up and confirmed that he had booked the suite for himself, her, and their child. Her mother-in-law was pretty furious about that, though, and ended up just hanging up the phone on everyone.
And afterward, she learned from her husband’s siblings that her mother-in-law is still fuming about the entire thing. Plus, her mother-in-law has apparently been going around and calling her a greedy jerk ever since.
So now, she is stuck in a pretty sticky situation. She thinks she had a right to set the record straight with her in-laws because, after all, she and her husband footed the bill. Nonetheless, her mother-in-law’s comments have started to make her question if insisting on taking the suite was the wrong thing to do.
Do you think she had a right to assume that the suite would go to her and her husband? Was she perhaps too overzealous in her explanation or not? How would you solve this situation in order to save the vacation from being totally awkward?
