Since then, he really hasn’t allowed his dad into his life much, but recently, his dad has made contact with him through some of their family members.
“He went on about his overwhelming feelings of loneliness, his upcoming divorce, and invited me to spend Christmas with him because he’s alone and heartbroken,” he said.
“As a response, I told him I’ll GLADLY spend Christmas with him if he gives back my college fund in a form of a Christmas gift.”
“He and the others didn’t like my response. He thought this was harsh, and my relatives said that I was a judgemental, petty, greedy a****** to say this to him after he’s lost so much.”
“They said he did all he could to save his stepson’s (my stepbrother’s) life which they described as “noble,” and that he doesn’t owe me a thing. I went home after a big argument with my uncle, who came at me for what I said.”
What really hurt him the most was disappointing his uncle and letting him down. It really was terrible for him to stand there as his uncle berated him for how he felt about his college fund.
He still feels terrible, and he’s thinking that perhaps he should have just said no to spending Christmas with his dad without getting into it with him about the college money.
Do you think he should have skipped out on Christmas with his dad without giving a reason?
