“A few hours after I dropped off the gifts, I got a text from my ex explaining it has been a tough year, and while he appreciates the sentiment, the gift is making him feel very anxious, and he wants to return the gift,” she said.
She replied to her ex that the gift was supposed to be from their son and not her, and she wanted him to feel comfortable accepting it.
She did let him know that it was ok to give the gift back, though, and she figured he was talking about the gift card.
When she headed back to her ex’s mom and dad’s house to pick their son up after work, she was shocked to see that her ex had not only returned the gift card; he had returned the calendar she made too.
“My feelings were hurt,” she continued. “I graciously accepted everything back and have not said anything about it.”
Now that she’s stopping to think about it though, she knows her heart was in the right place, and she was only trying to do something kind.
Her ex’s mom and dad happily watch their son on a daily basis without expecting any kind of payment, and she really wanted to show them that she appreciates what they do.
She’s left wondering what on earth she should do from here on out.
She was thinking of getting her ex a present for his upcoming birthday from their son, but she’s worried that might be the wrong thing to do now.
