She worked with planes for the Royal Air Force (RAF) for six months before becoming a personal pilot to friends who owned farmland on the Isle of Wight.
In 1961, she married a fellow pilot named Don Ellis, and they lived together near the Sandown airport runway until he died in 2009.
Mary continued to be celebrated for all her pilot work and even had her 100th birthday party hosted at the airport!
In 2018, the year she passed away, she was awarded the freedom of the Isle of Wight. Wasn’t she an awesome lady?
