One would be to have her, and both of her brothers appointed guardianship of their sister so that they could split the responsibilities evenly.
Another would be to leave their entire estate to their sister and have a trustee manage the funds for her.
She also proposed that if she did become her sister’s sole guardian, she should also get her parent’s entire estate. She notes that her parents aren’t extremely wealthy.
“Their estate will mostly consist of their house and the insurance policies they took out when they realized the long-term costs of care for my sister,” she explained.
Her parents were not happy with that option and told her she was being greedy. That’s when she told them she could be taken out of their will entirely and would not take any part in having guardianship over her sister.
This really upset her parents. Her dad was furious, and her mom cried as she left. Later, she got a call from her brothers to tell her she was in the wrong for suggesting something like that to her parents.
“I asked both of them if they wanted 100% responsibility for our sister in return for the entire estate,” she added. “I volunteered to sign away everything to them. Neither one took me up on the offer.”
Do you think her ideas for the future were that unreasonable?
