The timing for this issue with her mother-in-law is terrible, as she’s already dealing with a crisis with her own mother, who recently was evicted from her home and needed a new place to stay in as well.
“I was angry that his mother would choose to move, already being fully aware that we were hands-deep in trying to find my mother a place to stay,” she said.
“I already set the boundary that mine wouldn’t stay with us. Now both moms were moving at the same time.”
Her mother-in-law is on the road to their side of the country now. They were on the phone with her the other night, and she lost it when her mother-in-law confidently stated that she would be staying with them.
“I immediately took the phone and let her know that wouldn’t be happening, as we had already told her before she was on the road that it wasn’t an option,” she recalled. “She broke down in tears and tried to guilt us into it, so I offered to pay for a hotel for a week or two.”
Now, her mother-in-law is very upset and is accusing her and her husband of making her “uproot” her life even though they never forced her to do anything, especially not sell her home on a whim.
Her mother-in-law’s guilt-tripping and gaslighting are beginning to wear her husband down to the point where he’s leaning more toward letting her stay with them.
Should she let her mother-in-law move in or continue saying no?
