Things in Allison’s chaotic household settled for a few years until a couple of weeks ago when Matt learned something about his father’s past that shocked him.
Matt and his girlfriend, Mandy, lived with Lisa and James for a while until they left after Matt had issues with his siblings. Lisa wasn’t supportive of them, and they ultimately decided to move out.
When Allison met up with them recently, she told them something like, “Lisa was the reason me and Holly have never had good relationships with our father.”
Mandy asked her who Holly was, and she said she was their sister. At first, she was shocked as to why Matt wouldn’t tell his girlfriend about Holly. But as it turned out, Matt didn’t know Holly was their sister.
The only times he had met her, he was too young to remember who she was. He had heard her name in passing or when his parents would argue a few times, but other than that, he had no idea he was Holly’s sibling.
“Holly was essentially erased, and I was the only one who knew,” she explained.
Matt confronted her dad, whom she hadn’t heard from in months, given their almost non-existent relationship. Since the altercation with Matt, her dad has been calling her non-stop. Naturally, she doesn’t want to answer him. However, part of her feels bad for the way things went down.
“I feel bad for unknowingly exposing this, but I never knew it was some top secret,” she said.
Do you think she needs to apologize to her dad for bringing up Holly, or should she wait for his apology instead?
