The last straw for her was when they were at a gathering, and a man made a comment, saying, “Women are really good at spending all the money we men make, right?”
Sadly, she watched her husband laugh and agree with that man before telling the party about how he bought her a bike she had never used. However, that bike was paid for using some of the money she got from selling her own bike. The rest was paid for using a bonus she got at work.
After hearing him talk like that, she decided to try and get a better job, and she didn’t tell her husband she was interviewing. She got rejected from places for 3 months until she finally landed a position with a salary that was a little higher than her husband’s.
Instead of celebrating her new job, her husband felt insulted once he heard about it. First, he told her he felt betrayed and that she was being petty. Then, he turned the tables and told her that all he had been doing the past eight months was make her feel like his money was hers.
“When I told him he did the exact opposite, he said he was just happy he could finally contribute to our marriage,” she added.
She now worries that she may have taken things a little too far, as she admittedly only started looking for a new job because she was frustrated with him.
How can this couple resolve these money-related issues?
