Boiling Wooden Spoons Has Been Going Viral On TikTok As A Way To Get Them Clean

However, a majority of TikTok users were against the practice, with some stating that boiling wooden spoons strips them of their protective coating and others asserting that the flavoring is being taken out.

“You can’t do that to treated wood. Food-grade wood spoons are treated to not absorb anything. If you boil them, you ruin them,” one user pointed out.

“I did this, and two weeks later, my spoons had mold growing on them. It’s never happened before! It’s true that it removes the coating!” exclaimed another.

“This is like super scrubbing cast iron. You’re taking away all the seasoning,” commented a third.
