“I thought I could look past this,” he said. “I never dated anyone solely based on their personality while excluding looks, and I thought it was what I needed.”
“She is also on the chubby side, and she mentions she intends to stay like that because she likes how she looks. I don’t, and this makes me feel like a jerk.”
“I am not sure what to do. She is a sweetheart, but I am having a hard time looking over her appearance…”
He knows that what’s on the inside really does count, but he just can’t keep struggling with how Jane looks.
While he does tell Jane that she is pretty, he knows he’s lying to her and doesn’t actually think it, which makes him feel worse.
He believes Jane should be with a guy who completely values her for her personality as well as her looks, and that’s not him.
“She is an angel,” he added. “The only issue is physical attraction. That’s it.”
He does feel remorseful for kind of stringing Jane along this far, and he’s wondering how to handle things going forward. Should he break up with Jane, and should he be honest with her and let her know it’s because he’s not attracted to her?
