For instance, whenever she says Scottish slang or pronounces her “r’s” in a particular way, her boyfriend apparently becomes really annoyed.
Then, with a look of disgust, her boyfriend says things like, “Why are you speaking like that?” or, “Don’t speak like that. You sound like a junkie.”
And obviously, these comments make her feel pretty horrible about herself. Plus, she has even tried to deliberately change the way she speaks around her boyfriend.
“But sometimes, my accent slips out, and I don’t mean to,” she vented.
So now, she honestly is not sure what to do.
Can you believe that after over two years of dating, her boyfriend still makes comments about her accent? Should she feel the need to change how she speaks around him? Or is it time to dump him?
