You might think there’s no point in learning their nighttime routine because your wife is the one who usually does all that anyway, but that philosophy is precisely where your problem lies.
Don’t just step back into the sidelines when your wife returns. Instead, create a new normal by actually participating in your kids’ activities. After a few practice rounds, you’re bound to get the hang of it.
Next, if you don’t know how to make dinner for your family, you better learn. And we’re not talking about elaborate five-course dinners, either. Just whip up some basic meals that include all the major food groups.
And, finally, don’t call her to complain about stuff your kids are doing while she’s busy on a work trip or trying to enjoy her vacation. Chances are, she already knows all about it because she handles it every day.
“They’re going to be annoying, they’re going to whine, they’re going to do something stupid. Don’t bug her. Just deal with it yourself unless it’s something major,” said Jeff.
