“She has a silicone one now,” he explained.
“And she wants a full-on replacement for the original ring. Like thousands of dollars worth.”
Quite frankly, though, he wound up telling his wife no. He pointed out how, numerous times in the past, he had told his wife to either leave her wedding ring on top of the mantle or lock it away in her jewelry box. That way, the kids couldn’t get their hands on it.
Plus, in the process of searching for her wedding ring, he also discovered one of the nicer necklaces he had bought for her stuck in the bathroom drain.
So, at that point, he claimed it was obvious that his wife just didn’t value her jewelry. And due to that, he really did not see the need to spend a ton of money on another wedding ring if she was not going to take care of it.
Still, his wife really wants a new replacement ring. And since most of their spending usually goes to their children, they generally both have to agree on large purchases.
So now, he has been left wondering whether refusing to say yes and buy her a new wedding ring is the wrong thing to do or not.
Can you understand why his wife really wants to replace her wedding ring? At the same time, is he right to be frustrated about the fact that a new ring would cost thousands of dollars and may not be taken care of properly? Should his wife be held accountable for her mistake, or do you think she’s learned her lesson? If you were in his shoes, what would you do?
