“I thought that this was really weird as it was my grandparents’ anniversary dinner, and it was supposed to be about them.”
She stood up after her sister’s boyfriend and cleared her throat, signaling him to stop because she felt it wasn’t the time or place for a proposal.
Then, her sister’s boyfriend started yelling at her in front of everyone and scolded her for ruining the moment. No one else in the room could find the words to say, including her sister, so everyone eventually started leaving.
Later, she discovered that her sister never accepted her boyfriend’s proposal because he told her he was drunk when he did it, which also explains his sloppy yelling.
She spoke with her grandmother, who told her that although she agreed with how she felt about the proposal, it wasn’t her place to make that kind of judgment at someone else’s event.
“I feel like I’ve ruined my grandparents’ anniversary and, on top of that, made my sister and her boyfriend mad at me,” she explained.
“Our mom and dad have yet to say anything, and I can’t stop thinking about how awkward the whole situation was.”
Do you think she shouldn’t have said anything at the anniversary party, or was she doing her sister a favor?
