Number four: do not stop giving your dog long-term medications, preventative care, or vaccines, even if they are currently healthy. It will make them more susceptible to illnesses. And in Dr. Marcus’s words, preventing diseases is much easier than treating them.
Finally, number five on the list is to never free feed. As much as your dog would love to eat everything at any time they want, it’s not the most healthy practice.
Control how much your dog eats and keep them on a consistent schedule. It will also allow you to easily track if your dog ever has a decrease in appetite, which could be a serious indicator of an underlying disease.
