During her later years, Ann eventually settled down in Florida and married Miami Herald photographer Bert Billheimer. She continued to write and sail but stopped sailing on her own. She passed away in 1992 at 78.
Ann’s boat, the Felicity Ann, was eventually donated to the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding in Port Hadlock, Washington, where experts and students have been working on its restoration.
Ann was a remarkable woman who found a way to do something meaningful after a terrible loss and is a great example of the things we can achieve when we put our minds to it.
