She Found Out That Her Dad Is Cheating On Her Mom After Going Through Her Mom’s Phone, And She’s Not Sure If She Should Tell Her Siblings

This 17-year-old girl is concerned about the current relationship between her mother, 48, and her father, 54, who have been married for the last 25 years.
About three or four years ago, she was a curious teenager, and she started sneakily looking through her mother’s phone and reading her text messages. She wanted to see what her mother’s conversations were like with her friends.
After that, she moved on to reading through the texts between her mother and father. Now, she regrets her decision to do this, but at the time, she was extremely young and didn’t know any better.
Immediately, she thought it was strange that her parents recently didn’t appear to text as often, and usually, they talk to each other the most out of anyone else.
“So, I scroll up a bit and find an argument between them, which basically said my mom caught my dad cheating with another woman at work and all that stuff. Of course, as I was reading, I was literally shaking,” she said.
It turned out that the other woman was aware that her father was married, and her mother caught them in the act of cheating. Her father and the other woman had even been exchanging spicy photos back and forth.
After reading these shocking text messages, she put her mother’s phone back where she’d found it, went to her room, and sobbed in bed the rest of the day.
Later on, her mother had to have back surgery. Her mother is disabled and is unable to work, but she doesn’t have to use a wheelchair and is able to move around and do most daily activities.
When her mother was out of surgery, she and her family went to visit her. As they were leaving for the day, her mother started to cry. She was concerned that it had something to do with her father, and she wondered if her mother was worried that he would cheat on her while she was recovering from surgery.

In her view, her parents were most likely only still together for her and her other siblings (she has two brothers, 13 and 28, and a 19-year-old sister) and because her mother couldn’t be financially stable on her own.
About a year or two later, she noticed that her parents started fighting more often, and her mother seemed to distance herself from her father.
Her mother was no longer physically affectionate towards her father, and she stopped cooking for her father and cleaning up after him. As time went on, her mother only did housework for her and her siblings.
Recently, her mother has been up to some odd online behavior. It appears that her mother may have found the other woman’s phone number, email, and social media profiles.
She can’t tell if her mother is simply reading the messages between her father and the other woman or if she’s attempting to pretend to be the other woman.
“Whenever she’s texting my dad on messenger, it’s very flirtatious and stuff, but then, on THEIR actual text messages, they don’t really text at all unless it’s about my dad’s work,” she explained.
“Then, today, I saw that she had the woman in her text messages, talking about how ‘she missed all that’ or something.”
“I don’t know if she somehow got the text messages to connect (because she has her login email, and I don’t know how she did that), and she’s pretending to be her, or she’s just reading their messages.”
Now, she doesn’t know if her mother is compiling evidence to use for a future divorce or has some sort of other reason for her mother’s recent messaging activity.
Her parents go back and forth with their relationship with one another. Sometimes, they laugh together and kid around, and then they suddenly start fighting.
“I just wanted to know if I should tell my siblings or let my parents deal with it because it’s their business and not mine,” she shared.
While she feels uncomfortable knowing this information, she’s pretty sure none of her siblings are aware of the cheating incident, and she doesn’t think that either of her parents is aware that she knows about it.
Since this was horrible information for her to come across, she doesn’t really want to get married in the future, and she feels like she has high expectations for relationships.
Do you think she should tell her siblings that their father cheated on their mother?
