He Wants His Brother-In-Law To Give Him $700 For A New Coat After His Got Lost

This young man was at the mall with his fiancée a year ago when he spotted a beautiful wool and cashmere coat on a rack.
It was stunning, and he knew he needed to have it. Luckily, there was one coat left in his exact size.
He then noticed it was on sale for $100, so he walked up to the register and purchased it without giving it another thought.
Since buying the coat, he has worn it a couple of times, though this winter hasn’t been chilly enough to warrant him wearing it with more frequency.
“Last week, when I saw the news about the upcoming cold front, I decided it was time to take it to the dry cleaners so that I can wear it this week,” he explained.
“After tearing all my closets apart without seeing it, I asked my fiancée if she had seen it. She told me that she [hasn’t] seen me wear it in a while, so she lent it to her brother to wear to a wedding.”
While he was irritated to hear his fiancée freely lent his special coat out without asking him first, he just told his fiancée to please get it back from her brother.
A few days went by after that, and he asked his fiancée about the coat again, but it still wasn’t returned to him.
Last Friday, after not getting an update on his coat, he called his brother-in-law himself to see where it was.

His brother-in-law mentioned that he had told his fiancée he lost his coat at the wedding, which really upset him.
He reminded his brother-in-law that he owes him a new coat for losing the last one. Yesterday evening, his fiancée came home in a bad mood and forked over $100, stating it was from her brother.
His fiancée then chastised him for making her brother pay for the coat, as he never even wore the coat that much.
Also, his brother-in-law doesn’t make that much money, so $100 is a hardship for him to have to give him.
He informed his fiancée that he didn’t want money; he wanted a new coat, and he knew $100 was not what the coat cost unless it was magically on sale again.
His fiancée replied that her brother went to the store to get him a new coat, but the price was $700, and his fiancée told her brother that $100 would be fine. He started arguing with his fiancée, until his fiancée finally told him she will give him another $100 out of his own pocket.
“I argued that I’m still out a coat and nothing will satisfy my loss except for a replacement coat,” he said.
“She argued that I don’t have to have the exact coat and that I can buy a similar one with $200. She thought I was being ridiculous and called her parents on speakerphone. Of course, they sided with their children, and her dad tried to say that a man shouldn’t be so hung up on a coat.”
“I told him that a man replaces what he loses. So now they’re all mad at me for wanting to make a profit from their son and [insinuating] that he’s not a man.”
He’s left wondering if it’s wrong of him to expect a replacement coat. What do you think?
