He Was Forced To Hit His Neighbor’s Dog After It Started Attacking His Puppy, But Now His Neighbor Wants Him To Pay The Vet Bill

In the fall, this man sadly lost both of his beloved pet dogs. One of his pups was older, so he knew the end was near. But then, his second dog just stopped eating after his first pup died.
“After four days of this, I took my dog to the vet, and he had pretty advanced stomach cancer. It almost seemed like he was sticking around for his buddy,” he recalled.
The loss of both of his pets was pretty heart-wrenching, too, especially since he always loved having a dog around the house.
That’s why, one month following the loss of his second dog, he went to a local rescue and found a “tiny little mutt” that was up for adoption.
The female puppy was only six-months-old and weighed just six pounds at the time. So, he decided to take her home, and ever since, he claimed that she’d been an awesome pet.
However, he has a neighbor who owns a large Rottweiler, and normally, their yards are separated by a six-foot wooden fence. Well, somehow, the Rottweiler was able to get into his yard recently and actually attacked his puppy.
“It grabbed her by the back of the neck and was shaking her,” he revealed.
Then, once he realized what was going on, he ran outside and hit the Rottweiler pretty hard to break up the attack. At that point, he admitted that the Rottweiler “yelped” and let go of his puppy.
Afterward, he wrapped his pup in a towel and raced her to the emergency veterinarian. She wound up being fine, but she was very shaken up and still needed to get a few stitches.

Yet, the following day, his neighbor actually knocked on his front door and was furious at him. His neighbor accused him of “severely injuring” the Rottweiler and claimed that he needed to pay the dog’s vet bill!
He absolutely refused to do that, though, and his neighbor started threatening him with security camera footage.
“My neighbor said he had security camera footage of me hitting his dog and causing the injuries,” he explained.
“But I told him that I would be more than happy to take that evidence of me defending my dog in my yard.”
Regardless, his neighbor has since started spreading rumors about him– telling others in their community that he hurt the Rottweiler and refuses to take any responsibility.
Well, he didn’t tell his neighbor that he also had a security camera in his yard. And while he never asked his neighbor to pay for his puppy’s vet bill and didn’t even plan on using the security camera footage to get his neighbor in trouble, he wants to now after everything that’s happened.
However, his girlfriend thinks that would be totally unnecessary. In fact, she believes that he should just pay the Rottweiler’s vet fees in order to put the situation to rest and get rid of the tension between him and his neighbor.
“I think they are both wrong,” he vented, “But I do feel quite badly about injuring the dog.”
So now, he can’t help but wonder if refusing to pay his neighbor’s vet bill after their Rottweiler attacked his puppy is really so unreasonable or not.
Who is at fault here: his neighbor’s dog for initiating the attack or him for trying to break it up? Would you pay the Rottweiler’s vet fees if you were in his shoes?
