“On reflection, this had more to do with inadequate mapping, lack of preparation, and lack of satellite location technologies: we found that many of the sites could be re-found with a little bit of patience,” he continued.
Currently, the age of the majority of the sites is unknown. They likely span from the Bronze Age to the Byzantine period.
Some of them might be from the Hellenistic era and the Roman period. The tombs that were discovered had been cut into rock and built into limestone caves.
Additionally, a cemetery area with dozens of tombs and the remains of three ancient coastal quarries were found. So far, the age of the quarries is unclear, but it is possible that they date back to Roman times.
