Her Parents Expect Her To Pay Them Rent While Giving Her Older Brother $2,100 A Month To Afford His Life

“Suddenly, my parents are telling me that I need to pay rent and help out since I’m ‘not really in school’ [because] my classes are mostly online,” she recalled.

“I asked why they suddenly [want it] now, and they said they’re struggling, [yet] they were giving my brother $2,100 a month.”

She defended herself, telling her parents she’s held up her end of the bargain. She’s in school, working, paying all her bills, and only needs to live with them due to her student status.

She told them if they were really having a hard time financially, they should stop paying her brother and tell him to get a job.

“I won’t be paying rent until he does,” she added. “They think I’m being difficult and unfair.”

All of this tension makes her want to move out, but she wonders if she was wrong to withhold rent from her parents.

Are her parents being too harsh, or should she consider giving them some cash?
