18-Year-Old Stabbed To Death Over 30 Times After Going To Meet Her Ex To Discuss Their Relationship
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Morgan McCaffery graduated in June of last year from Nazareth Academy High School, a private all-girls school located in Philadelphia.
She was 18-years-old and thrilled to have been accepted to Manor College that fall to study dental hygiene.
A GoFundMe page created for her reads, “Anyone who knew Morgan knew how strong, courageous, independent, and loving she was.”
“She would light up any room she walked into and had the most beautiful personality. She was always taking care of everyone and spreading her love.”
Morgan had dated another 18-year-old named Gilbert Newton III for about a year, but then she decided to break things off with him.
Morgan had shared with one of her friends that the reason she ended things with Gilbert was that he had made threatening statements to her, and he was also abusive.

On the morning of July 27th, 2020, at around 8 a.m., Morgan agreed to meet up with Gilbert to talk about things between them and their relationship.
They had texted a lot the previous evening, and Gilbert was bringing up their breakup.

Gilbert had been trying to get Morgan back together with him, promising her he would make changes in his behavior.
So, Morgan headed to the parking lot of the Meadowbrook Train Station, in Abington, Pennsylvania, interested to hear what Gilbert had to say.
By 8:15 that morning, someone saw Morgan lying across the pavement, right next to her car that was still running.

She had more than 30 different stab wounds and slash marks across her stomach and neck and she was bleeding everywhere.
Sadly, by the time paramedics arrived on the scene, Morgan had already passed away. As police started to look into what had happened to her, a witness told them they saw somebody driving out of the parking lot in a white-colored Jeep.
Authorities quickly arrested Gilbert for murdering Morgan, and in his arrest affidavit it states his own mom called 911 after he came home a short time later with cut marks on his hands and blood covering his clothes.
Officers arrived at Gilbert’s house around 10 a.m., where he sat on his couch still covered in blood and allegedly confessed everything he did to Morgan.
“A young woman with her whole life ahead of her, just graduated from high school, was brutally stabbed to death,” Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele said in a statement.
“This murder is a tragedy for her family, her friends, and everyone who loved her. Sadly, we are seeing relationship violence and domestic violence far too often during this pandemic.”

In a Facebook post, Nazareth Academy High School shared, “Morgan was a light to those whom she encountered.”
“Just recently, during the opening weeks of the pandemic, Morgan organized, assembled, and distributed care packages to nurses at Abington Hospital. It was not uncommon for Morgan to put others first.”
Manor College spoke of Morgan in a Facebook post as well, saying, “Members of our community knew Morgan, most especially our Admissions Team.”
“Admissions Counselor Jennifer Peters shared that she’s known “Morgan since we were very young, we grew up together. She was a bright and beautiful person on the inside and out. Morgan was the type of girl who would give you the shirt off of her back, or be your shoulder to cry on. She had an incredibly infectious smile that you couldn’t help but smile back.”
Gilbert was arrested and charged with First-Degree Murder, Third-Degree Murder, and Possessing an Instrument of Crime.
This Wednesday, Gilbert was convicted of murdering Morgan and was sentenced to life in prison by Judge William Carpenter.
