New CDC Data Highlights The Mental Health Epidemic Among High School Students

Since releasing this report, the CDC has called on schools to act. The center’s research has found that students who feel connected to both adults and peers at school are less likely to feel persistently sad or hopeless. In fact, this risk factor drops eighteen percent.

Yet, less than half of survey respondents said they felt close to others at school.

“School connectedness is key to addressing youth adversities at all times– especially during times of severe disruptions. Students need our support now more than ever,” said Kathleen A. Eithier, the CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health Director.
